Sometimes, the best tricks don’t come from books…
But from the students themselves. ✨
The other day I was teaching the simple future tense in Spanish.
You know: take the infinitive and add the endings.
We were reviewing:
hablaré, comerás, vivirá…
And suddenly, one of my students thinks for a moment and says:
“Oh… but they’re like the present tense of haber, just with accents!”
I checked and… he was right!
he → é
has → ás
ha → á
hemos → emos (here without accent mark)
habéis → éis
han → án
It’s a trick I would’ve never thought of.
Because once you already know something, you stop seeing those connections.
And then I remembered the saying:
“Necessity is the mother of invention.”
So today I wanted to share this little story with you.
As a student, your way of understanding things can be unique and very valuable.
As a teacher, I’m lucky to learn from you all the time.
And you?
Do you have any trick to remember something in Spanish?
Want to try the future tense? Here’s a quick exercise (solution included!).
Once you learn the trick, the future tense stops being a list of endings and starts feeling like second nature.
Whether you’re in Buenos Aires or learning from home, we’ll teach you all the shortcuts that make Spanish click.
