let’s talk about the past.
The past is very useful when it comes to expressing things that have just happened, things that happened in the past, previous customs, to tell something happened in childhood, two days or a few seconds ago.
The simplest of the past of Spanish is the “Pretérito Indefinido”, it is like the past simple: it describes actions done and finished in the past that do not necessarily have an influence with the present, to enumerate tasks or actions done in the past or in a text presents the specific facts that advance the story.

Some examples:
Ayer a la noche cené con mis padres (I had dinner with my parents last night)
Cuando llegué al cine, ví a mi novio en la puerta (When I arrived at the cinema, I saw my boyfriend at the door)
El pájaro entró por la ventana y salió por la chimenea (The bird entered through the window and went out the chimney)

Now some exercises:
1) complete these phrases with the correct form of the past verb.

yo (dormir)…………… muy mal anoche.
ella (contar)…………… muchos chistes divertidos.

yo (comprar)…………. muchos recuerditos (little souvenirs) para llevarle a mi familia.
Julián (recordar)…………. la fecha de aniversario.
(yo) me (golpear)…………. el codo contra la mesa, auch!
