The Ñandú (Rhea) is the largest bird in South America (Argentina). There are two species: the common Ñandú and the Choique or Suri.

The common Ñandú lives from the province of Río Negro to Corrientes, Formosa and Salta, it reaches a heigh of 1.80 meters and weighs 40 kg. The Choique inhabits the Andes mountain range and the Patagonia, is 1.10 meters tall and weighs 25 kg. They all like open areas with low vegetation or grassland.

They are omnivorous: they eat seeds, fruits, insects, reptiles and small mammals.

Their feet have tree fingers and are adapted for fast runs.
